Useful advice but exaggerated claims. Application of this advice is not guaranteed to make you a millionaire. According to the author Brian Tracy anybody can apply the 21 success secrets of self- made millionaires he explains and guarantee financial independence. While the advice is useful to develop beneficial habits, sweeping statements such as : " nobody is smarter than you and nobody is better than you ", " if you apply this advice you are guaranteed to succeed " etc. are not very convincing. While it is true that many people suffer from low self esteem and would benefit from an increase in belief in their potential, interpreting this advice literally would mean that all 6 billion humans on the planet are equally smart and good, because nobody is smarter nor better than you no matter who you are. Of course this statement is absurd, but I believe Brian Tracy does not mean it literally. He tries to persuade listeners of this audiobook with low self esteem to believe that they can do better.
Among the 21 success secrets are ( not in the order given by the author ) regular exercise, frugality, integrity, dreaming big dreams, social networking, setting of values and priorities and focusing to achieve them, working hard, working fast, serving customers fast, paying yourself first i.e. allocating 10 % of your monthly income to investments, reading a book or listening to an audiobook per week, attending seminars, reading professional journals especially in your profession, seeing yourself as working for yourself even if you work for somebody else, deciding and working to be the best in your profession etc. There is no doubt that consistent application of this advice will improve the applier's life in general. But I am not convinced that by themselves these principles are a sure way to becoming a millionaire.
A significant part of his advice is directed to people working on payroll for a boss even though he says see yourself as the president of your own personal services company. There is advice such as : " when your boss asks you to do something, drop everything else and do it so fast that he will be amazed ". Get to work before everyone and leave after everyone, don't socialize at work, just work. Work much more than 40 hours per week. The first 40 hours is just for subsistence to pay the bills. Any work over 40 hours per week is to get rich. While I esteem hard work this advice to work hard by itself given by the author is ridiculous. There is very little if any mention of working effectively. The slogan " work smart not hard " does not exist among his advice. Many people who work hard and long hours don't work effectively. Many of them are workoholics compensating for some kind of psychological disturbance through hard work that is often not result oriented and is ineffective. Many of those workoholics are fulfilling BrianTracy's advice to work hard. Many of these people have unbalanced lives, suffer from depression etc. Their hard and ineffective work is an escape from various emotional and mental disturbances. How many bosses reward that kind of work ? Brian Tracy does not say effectiveness in work is not important but he does not stress that point either. He talks about working fast, not working effectively. He gives the advice to develop a reputation for speed. I agree that speed and hard work are important but only if they are effective at the same time. But many people at the workplace are very speedy and equally ineffective. This increase in speed without a clear direction and purpose in work and in life has been the subject of several good books among others such as " First things first " by Stephen Covey, " Faster" by James Gleick and " Success Intelligence " by Robert Holden.I recommend that everybody read those books.
If you are interested in the characteristics of millionaires and how you can apply their principles to become financially much better off I recommend the following three good books : " Eight Steps to Seven Figures " by Charles B. Carlson, " The Millionaire Next Door " and " The Millionaire Mind" by Thomas j. Stanley and William D.Danko. Those books have a much more detailed and convincing analysis of millionaire lifestyle, thinking and strategies to become rich without the apple polishing statements such as you are the greatest, nobody is better than you. They say that you have the potential to duplicate what the millionaires did but without exaggerated sweeping statements. Especially, Eight Steps to Seven Figures has a clear 8 step action plan that any person determined to achieve financial independence can apply.
My first book of Brian Tracy and it gives me a lift to get my goal Short, precise and practical book for goal achieving book I ever read and makes me faster and stronger in going where I want to be.
Thank you Mr Brian Tracy.
Great Ideas that Work! This is short book by Brian Tracy is filled with INCREDIBLE tips on how to not only make more money, but also live a better life and accomplish your dreams and goals. I've read this book over and over again, and have highlighted it to death. Life is far too busy to sit down and read a 200-300 page book. Also, I really detest lots of fluff and appreciate that this 77 page book is filled with information and exercises that work!
Adopting new habits is tough, but if you want to increase your finances and make BIG life changes, follow the tips in this book and you'll be surprised at how easy it is to attract beneficial opportunities and people. You'll want to keep the book nearby because it's easy to start a new path, and just as easy to let it go.
The exercise I started just last night is on page 7. He writes, "What one thing would I dare to dream if I knew I could not fail?" That's the main reason we don't accomplish dreams in life. We're AFRAID. Whether we're afraid of failing, or of not getting support, or simply afraid of change, if you truly want to have a better life it's going to take time and effort on your part. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you've got. If you know it's time to make life changes this short and informative book will greatly help!

Lot of useful information that can be applied to most any individual Heard SUCCESS SECRETS OF SELF-MADE MILLIONAIRES,
written and read by Brian Tracy.
He's a renowned author, lecturer and trainer who cranks out
a lot of programs . . . this CD program wasn't brilliantly original,
but that said, I did find a lot of information in it that could
be applied to most any individual.
And though Tracy does little more than speak in front of
a camera, I liked his passion for the topic and how he came
across . . . it was almost as if he was speaking directly to me.
There were many worthwhile tidbits of information I gained
from listening . . . among them:
* Treat your company like you own it.
* Spend at least as much time on yourself as you do on your job.
* If you ask successful people for help, they'll help you. If you ask
unsuccessful people, they'll try to hold you back.
* Take something that's been done and doe it better; e.g.,
the way McDonald's did.
* More people have become wealthily by running dry cleaning
establishments than any other field.
* Focus on continuous personal development.
* One hour of study per day for five years will make you one of
the greatest experts in the world.
* Your rewards in life will be equal to the value of your service.
* Develop the ability to do what's most important and then do it
quickly. Only 2% of the nation has any sense of urgency.
KD I am a Brian Tracy fan, however I was less than impressed with this book. I did not find any of the information to be differant from what he has put in previous books and CD's. It is more like he dummied down the information from other books into 21 small 2-3 page lessons/chapters
