Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time

Brief description of Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time

Do you want to get ahead in life? Climb the ladder to personal success? The secret, master networker Keith Ferrazzi claims, is in reaching out to other people. As Ferrazzi discovered early in life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships—so that everyone wins.In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps—and inner mindset—he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his Rolodex, people he has helped and who have helped him.The son of a small-town steelworker and a cleaning lady, Ferrazzi first used his remarkable ability to connect with others to pave the way to a scholarship at Yale, a Harvard MBA, and several top executive posts. Not yet out of his thirties, he developed a network of relationships that stretched from Washington’s corridors of power to Hollywood’s A-list, leading to him being named one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 and selected as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the Davos World Economic Forum.Ferrazzi's form of connecting to the world around him is based on generosity, helping friends connect with other friends. Ferrazzi distinguishes genuine relationship-building from the crude, desperate glad-handling usually associated with “networking.” He then distills his system of reaching out to people into practical, proven principles. Among them:Don’t keep score: It’s never simply about getting what you want. It’s about getting what you want and making sure that the people who are important to you get what they want, too.“Ping” constantly: The Ins and Outs of reaching out to those in your circle of contacts all the time—not just when you need something.Never eat alone: The dynamics of status are the same whether you’re working at a corporation or attending a society event— “invisibility” is a fate worse than failure. In the course of the book, Ferrazzi outlines the timeless strategies shared by the world’s most connected individuals, from Katherine Graham to Bill Clinton, Vernon Jordan to the Dalai Lama. Chock full of specific advice on handling rejection, getting past gatekeepers, becoming a “conference commando,” and more, Never Eat Alone is destined to take its place alongside How to Win Friends and Influence People as an inspirational classic.

Comments by amazon customers about Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time

REQUIRED READING FOR A SUCCESSFUL LIFETIME
This should be required reading for all past, present and future people interested in having a great fulfilling life. No matter what your chosen field may be, it shows you life should be about caring and sharing in your family, your friendships and your work environment. If we all had these values set in our minds, every business, school, household, church, government, etc.; would be so much better. Helping each other to obtain whatever goals we have set would be possible. Modern day version of the old "Do unto others" commandment.

Never eat alone
It is a good & practice book for networking...don't get me wrong...networking is a way not only for business but also for your personal life to meet more differ people and more enjoy your life

"Business is Human - Relationships Power Growth"
I first heard about this book at a local Dallas / Fort Worth chapter meeting for Organizational Development Network professionals almost two years ago. I should have rushed out of that meeting and placed my order for a copy on amazon.com that evening after hearing the discussion about it. Instead it went on my list of books to read and now two years later I finally obtained a copy. Chapter nine, Warming the Cold Call outlines a clear, non-manipulative strategy for how to connect with people you would like to meet. The steps in brief are (1) convey credibility (2) state your value proposition (3) impart urgency and convenience and (4) be prepared to offer a compromise. When you read chapter nine you will discover that it's not about going to a person with the proverbial 'hat in your hands' but rather it is about what you can do for each other. It is all about building relationships that are lasting, enduring, and beneficial for all those that are involved. I have started using Keith's tips during my career management transition and I'm actually enjoying meeting new people and figuring out how we can mutually help each other. I highly recommend this book. As Keith would say, "Business is Human - Relationships Power Growth" Kevin Love, MBA Training and Development Professional Dallas / Fort Worth Area 817.778.8540 [...]

One Of The better Networking Books
I think this is one of the better books on networking. I have good networking skills and this book gave me a lot of tips that have worked well. The book could have been edited down a bit and is a little wordy but over all very worth while.

Self-serving, self-aggrandizing, and self-advertisement.
This book was written to add one more bullet to Keith Ferrazzi's list of accomplisments. The ideas are superficial, hardly revolutionary, and not much different from the simple epiphanies that come into one's life at one point or another. To my surprise, for as many 'connections' as the author seems to have, I don't recall any of them providing any direct advice/quote(s) for the book. There's too much arrogance in this book to leave one enlightened. There are some feeble attempts at balancing his ego, but I would be hard pressed to believe that they came from Mr. Ferrazzi himself.
