Self Leadership and the One Minute Manager : Increasing Effectiveness Through Situational Self Leadership by Blanchard, Ken

Comments by amazon customers about Leading at a Higher Level: Blanchard on Leadership and Creating High Performing Organizations

A Leadership Manual
As the authour of One-Minute Manager and a few dozen other business books, Ken Blanchard has tried to put most of what he knows into this one volume. It is a very valuable, though at times a tedious read. But it brought back to the forefront the concept that I have learned from Ken's books long ago--the importance of Situational Leadership. In this book, Ken goes into great details on how to best practive an updated version of Situational Leadership called Situational Leadership 2. I find the designation a bit misleading, but the concept is good. It is a good read and I recomend it.

A Flawless Leadership Blueprint
Ken Blanchard's wonderful guide to what it takes to be a top-notch leader is a flawless blueprint for success. So much of what he advocates seems so obvious, but as we all know, it's not being applied in the great majority of that wasteland known as corporate America. That's a shame, because with the economy in the shape it's in, they need all the help they can get. Without a doubt, the success or failure of any organization begins at the very top; either the CEO gets it, or they don't. If they don't get it, chances are the organization is in a state of disarray, and the employees in that organization aren't fully engaged in the process known as "work". When that happens, the productivity is of course diminished, and major corporations are going belly up. The few that have been successful over the past year or so, have achieved that success by no accident. You can go right to the top; and chances are, that head-honcho has already read this book. It's cliche to say, but it's so true; if only this book were required reading for those pompous CEOs. We'd be in a whole lot better shape, and so would our portfolios.

Always a good read
I like to use books like this to reinforce what I know I should be doing and have seemed to fall off track. I was originally assigned to read this book for an upcoming training I was doing.

"Three" cheers for Leading at a Higher Level
They say things happen in threes and that particularly applies to the book Leading at a Higher Level - by management expert Ken Blanchard who famously co-authored The One Minute Manager. In Leading at a Higher Level its almost Trinitarian in how many "threes" the author packs into this book. For instance, Blanchard outlines his "three" essentials that are necessary to making customers feel special and converting them into evangelists for your organization. Additional "triumvirate tips" include: the three skills of self-directed leaders; the three critical steps to empowerment as well as the three attributes of situational leaders. Regardless of the "hat-trick format" of most of the information, Soundview still recommends this book because of the wisdom and insight contained in its pages. In fact, we were inspired to share our own three steps to success using this book: first, buy it; second, read it; third, apply the principles to your organization and watch the results!

Putting It All Together
Leading at a Higher Level is an excellent book that really "puts it all together" related to leadership and Blanchard's principles. I highly recommend it for a comprehensive book about leadership. I am using the book with our management/administrative team. Each person is reading the book and then facilitating the discussion of one chapter. The website resources are an added bonus. I am very excited about the individual and team development possibilities. Thank you!
