From the Impresario of NBC’s hit show The ApprenticeTRUMP ON TRUMP: “I like thinking big. I always have. To me it’s very simple: if you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.”And here’s how he does it: the art of the deal.Beginning with a week in Trump’s high-stakes life, Trump: The Art of the Deal gives us Trump in action. We see just how he operates day to day—how he runs his business and how he runs his life—as he chats with friends and family, clashes with enemies, efficiently buys up Atlantic City’s top casinos, changes the face of the New York City skyline . . . and plans the tallest building in the world.TRUMP ON TRUMP: “I play it very loose. I don’t carry a briefcase. I try not to schedule too many meetings. I leave my door open. . . . I prefer to come to work each day and just see what develops.”Even a maverick plays by rules, and here Trump formulates his own eleven guidelines for success. He isolates the common elements in his greatest deals; he shatters myths (“You don’t necessarily need the best location. What you need is the best deal”); he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker’s art: from the abandoned property that became the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to the seedy hotel that became the Grand Hyatt; from the race to rebuild Central Park’s Wollman Skating Rink to the byzantine saga of the property that became Trump Tower. And throughout, Trump talks—really talks—about how he does it.TRUMP ON TRUMP: “I always go into a deal anticipating the worst. If you plan for the worst—if you can live with the worst—the good will always take care of itself.”Donald Trump is blunt, brash, surprisingly old-fashioned in spots—and always, always an original. Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur and an unprecedented education in the art of the deal. It’s the most streetwise business book there is—and a sizzling read for anyone interested in money and success. From the Hardcover edition.

Donald Trump's professional path & management style While Donald Trump may be criticized for his style and potentially overselling the merits & sucess of the projects & business he created, this book is quite insightful for various reasons:
- This books presents Donald trump unedited. His thoughts / rationale come through in his own language and his own words.
- Donald Trump is obviously an entrepreneur and business leader. This book gives a clear insight about decisions he has to take on a daily basis, and covers the challenges and methods he is using to overcome unavoidable setbacks. In particular, his use of lawyers & litigation is quite frequent
-Donald Trump's career is closely linked to New York City's history and development. This book helps understand today's Manhattan as Donald Trump devoted so much energy & time and money there. This book is a must-read for adopted or native New Yorkers. Even if you're critical of Donald Trump's style, towers and hype, you will learn quite a lot about what goes behind the scene ( Mayor's office, developpers, marketing, lawsuits, etc, etc ).
Personal biography This book is Trump's biography. He is the son of a real estate developer who dealt mainly in low-income housing. His father's strategy did not appeal to him because he wanted to make more money so he moved into a small apartment in Manhattan where he started looking for deals. Slowly, he became a huge player in the New York real estate market. He walks readers through all his deals describing what he had to do to get zoning approvals, financing for the projects, architectural plans, and land under contract. If you like Trump, you will love this book. However, this was written before he almost went broke. For that story, I recommend The Art of the Comeback.
- Mariusz Skonieczny, author of Why Are We So Clueless about the Stock Market? Learn how to invest your money, how to pick stocks, and how to make money in the stock market
You Should Balance Boldness and Promotion with Patience, Caution and Flexibility Trump believes that the key to success in business is to balance boldness and promotion with patience, caution and flexibility. Though now 20 years old, "The Art of the Deal" contains the deals, beliefs and strategies that have seen him thrive and prosper even in tough times. Despite his flashy images, a major element in Trump's success is his ability to "wait". Many of his successes came from offerring to buy units before they were in the market. "The worst thing you can possibly do in a deal", he writes, "is seem desperate to make it". A key to understanding Trump's success is that he actually likes handling "complexity". Most people do not have the stomach for such uncertainties, but Trump thrives on them (eg he makes 50-100 phone calls a day). Littered with interesting mentions of the great and the good of New York in the 1980's, including novelist Judith Krantz, television personality David Litterman, etc, "The Art of the Deal" is a fun read along with its valuable lessons. Trump fun should also get the sequel, "The Art of the Comeback", written 10 years later. The Forbes Rich List of 2006 estimates Trump's fortune of $2.9 billion, making him America's 94th richest person.
Great book! In this book, Trump talks about how he got started in Manhattan and real estate development. Although he had a real estate background with his father, he pretty much had to start from the bottom in Manhattan. He talks about how he started to make a name for himself by surrounding himself with important people in the area. He also talks about how he went about making deals as well as his personal views on life and business. Overall a great book!
Clever and funny This book is not a "learn how to" book, it is more an autbiographical book about Trumps' deals. However the reader gets a picture of what it takes to make great deals and about the business world in which Trump evolves. The book is very interesting, funny, and extremly clever; it is a pleasure to read it!
